Abstract

The article reveals the peculiarities of the development of critical thinking of students with the help of a metaphor. This question is especially important for modern society today, because the ability to think critically helps people work with different types of texts, analyze information sources and evaluate their reliability. They learn to express their opinions in a reasoned manner, discuss socially important topics and make informed decisions. Critical thinking promotes personal growth, as it stimulates self-reflection, helps everyone better understand themselves, their strengths and areas for development.

It was concluded that metaphor has great potential for the development of critical thinking. It helps a person shift attention from the direct meaning of a word to a similar situation or concept in another context, expands understanding of concepts by visualizing abstract ideas through concrete analogies, stimulates the search for arguments, opens new ways of understanding a problem or situation. The author proved that the use of metaphor encourages schoolchildren to analyze in detail, justify, expand understanding and form new perspectives. Using specific examples, using a variety of methodological tools, she showed how the metaphor leads the reader to careful thoughtful reading, searching for relevant quotes for dialogue or discussion. The teacher develops skills relevant for critical thinking in working with information, assessing its reliability and value, distinguishing objective facts from subjective opinion about them; express opinions in a reasoned manner, control the correctness of one's own judgments, not be influenced by other people's opinions without their proper analysis and awareness, overcome stereotypes of thinking.
