Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of assessment in English language lessons. The theoretical aspects of the main types of assessment are revealed. The results of Ukrainian research on the main types, methods and means of assessment within the framework of the NUS concept are highlighted. Foreign studies on assessment are reviewed. The English language textbooks of British publishers with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine are analysed. The possibilities for assessment provided by Express Publishing, MM Publication, Cambridge, Pearson and Macmillan are compared. The application of the main types and methods of assessment with the help of some textbooks of the above-mentioned publishers is described.
