The article studies interdisciplinary links between the mathematical and professionallyoriented disciplines in oil and gas engineering education. It reveals a close connection of mathematical disciplines with the disciplines of natural, general technical, and professional orientation. It provides examples of problems modeling the
situations that arise in the professional activity of an oil and gas engineer; the research of these situations is conducted using mathematics. Including such professionally-oriented problems in the curriculum stimulates students' learning motivation. This article also notes the issues that typically occur during the professionalization of mathematical disciplines.
