Abstract

The article analyzes the development of pedagogical thought in Romania on the importance and necessity of physical education of schoolchildren of the late XIX - first third of the XX century. Thus, it is determined that physical education, according to a number of experts, has brought to education, in particular to intellectual education, only shortcomings, the author gives "for" and "against" such a negative attitude. The author proves that both supporters and opponents of physical education and sports recognized their need and role in the education of children and young people in the country and supported Romania's policy of mandatory development. It was concluded that the topic of the need and importance of such activities was quite relevant both among teachers and practicing coaches in sports clubs, and among journalists and clergy, public figures and more. There were various opinions and theories - some argued that the effect of physical activity on the body of a young man is only positive, others considered sports a bad habit, some called exercise mandatory for girls, others strongly opposed it. All this proves that the subject of physical exercises, development of sports activities among the younger generation was relevant.
