NATIONAL DEMOCRACY REVOLUTION ON WESTERN UKRAINIAN TERRITORIES (1918– 1923): TO THE PROBLEMS OF CHRONOLOGY

Abstract

In Ukrainian historiography in
recent decades there is a process of serious
refi nement, rethinking the chronology of
the Ukrainian Revolution as a nationwide
process. The approaches to defi ne national
revolutionary processes at the beginning of
the 20th century such as «national liberation
struggles», «national liberation fi ght»
become more popular and regard as a separate
phenomenon – the Ukrainian Revolution.
At their core, and course it is different
from the revolution in Russia. At the same
time, one can not reject signifi cant mutual
interactions between these processes.
A signifi cant revision needs to be done
about the chronological boundaries that requires
to national-democratic revolution in
November 2018 in the western Ukrainian
lands. It should be considered in the context
of the general process of continental European
nations struggle for their national liberation
and national self-assertion during
the First World War. The lower boundary of
this process (national liberation struggles in
the western Ukrainian lands) and the phenomenon
(the national-democratic revolution
in November 1918- this interpretation
is still used) should not only be united, but
also regarded as endless. As the result we
consider it possible to use the term «National
democratic revolution in the western On the other hand, from such an interpretation
of the chronological boundaries
of the national-democratic revolution in
the western Ukrainian lands there is a need
to clarify the boundaries of the Ukrainian
Revolution of the second-third decade of the
twentieth century. That is because the integral
part is the revolutionary events in the
western Ukrainian lands of this period as
unseparate part of the determine revolution.
On the other hand, all these events extend
the boundaries of the Ukrainian revolution
itself on its national scale. This will contribute
to the establishment of a new paradigm
for its consideration, as a national liberation.
Therefore, it is quite natural to consider
the borders of the Ukrainian Revolution
for 1914–1923.
